WHAT IS SCULPTRA, AND WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE SCULPTRA OVER DERMAL FILLERS?

What is Sculptra vs Dermal Filler?

What is the difference between Scupltra and Dermal Fillers? A Sculptra injection contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biostimulant. The liquid consistency of Sculptra makes it easy to inject beneath the skin. Sculptra stimulates your body’s natural collagen production once injected into the tissues.

Dermal fillers, however, are made of Hyaluronic acid, which holds its shape like a gel. The purpose of dermal fillers is not to stimulate collagen production but to temporarily replace the volume that has been lost. Dermal fillers show immediate results. Sculptra’s effects are gradual since the body builds collagen over time.
Dermal fillers and Sculptra are used to treat volume loss, fine lines, folds, and wrinkles. Approximately 1% of our collagen is lost each year after the age of 20 as a result of the aging process, environmental stressors, and genetic predisposition. In the absence of collagen, the skin thins, resulting in wrinkles and folds. Our skin contains collagen, a fibrous protein found deep beneath the skin that provides structural support and maintains its shape, moisture, and elasticity. Smooth skin and a youthful appearance are attributed to a healthy supply of collagen.

What’s difference between dermal fillers and Scupltra? Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made of of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Sculptra has a liquid consistency and is injected underneath the skin. Once injected, Sculptra incorporates into the tissues and stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen.

On the other hand, dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic acid designed to hold its shape in the form of a gel-like substance. Dermal fillers do not stimulate collagen production, but rather are meant to temporarily replace missing volume. The effects of dermal filler are apparent immediately. Whereas the effects of Sculptra happens gradually since it takes time for the body to build collagen.

Both Dermal filler and Sculptra are designed to address lost volume, fine lines, folds and wrinkles. Due to the aging process, environmental stressors, and our genetic predisposition, we suffer from loss of collagen at a rate of about 1% annually after the age of 20. Loss of collagen leads to thinning of skin which results in the formation of wrinkles and folds. Collagen is a fibrous protein in the deep dermal layer that gives our skin structural support and helps to maintain shape, moisture, and elasticity of the skin. A healthy supply of collagen is the source of smooth skin and a youthful appearance.

FAQs

Sculptra is a bio-stimulating treatment. With Sculptra, the loss of collagen is addressed as the underlying cause of aging skin. A Sculptra injection stimulates the natural growth of collagen in the face (or buttocks). As a result, the texture of the skin improves dramatically and facial volume is restored over time. Natural results are noticeable after 2-4 sessions (depending on individual concerns). Sculptra’s effects may last up to 25 months.

A good candidate for Sculptra should have a healthy immune system and no history of keloid scarring. You should not take blood thinners if you have a medical condition that requires them.

Your provider at Absolute Wellness & Medspa will ensure that your treatment is performed under sterile conditions with the utmost care and comfort. Through the use of a microcannula, Sculptra is injected into the face. An initial puncture is made with a trocar needle, then a blunt cannula (like an IV catheter) is used to inject the product. For five days following the treatment, the client should massage the area for five minutes five times a day. The goal of this step is to ensure that biostimulating microparticles are evenly distributed and begin stimulating collagen production.

Before your treatment, we recommend staying well hydrated by drinking 8 glasses of water in a 24-hour period. On the day of the treatment, please avoid wearing makeup. To prevent infection, we will thoroughly cleanse your skin before the procedure.

The injection sites will be tender and swollen for about a week after Sculptra is injected. It is possible to experience bruising after injection, but the risk is minimized when blunt-tip microcannulas are used.

Sculptra injections usually produce subtle results within a month. Collagen formation can take up to six months, so these results will continue to improve.
